Get into Sailing at Llandegfedd
Why not come and join our junior and youth sailors at Llandegfedd? Whether you are completely new to the sport, or can already sail but and have moved to the area, there are lots of opportunities to get on the water and go racing.
Llandegfedd has always had a number of Junior Sailors. We have even had some Welsh and British champions. (See the Club History). We also see these people returning with their own families some years later. We have always had family crews, normally with Dad helming and offspring as crew. Who knows, the skill level may often be higher at the front of the boat?
The club runs a summer sailing course every year for beginners to get their RYA stage 2 or maybe even 3. It is a brilliant way to get introduced to sailing and meet the other youth sailors that help out. See details in the training section. If you can’t come on the club course Gwent Adventures at the reservoir run courses all through the season.
The sailing club owns oppys, toppers and a Laser that can be used by junior and youth members for training and racing.

When you have completed RYA stage 2 and can sail a triangle, you can start racing. Coaching sessions are held throughout the season and many of our sailors race in the regional CYRC series. This gives you the chance to visit and compete at other clubs in the South Wales region.
There is also the Acorn Regatta held at Llangorse annually at the beginning of September, specifically for less experienced racers, with coaching on the water to help you around the course. It’s a weekend event, with lots of families camping on site, and usually a good social event on and off the water.
Once you’re hooked on the sport, you’ll want to keep sailing all year! We have close links with the Welsh Yachting Association who support an excellent winter training programme.
Have a look through the other pages to see what our youths are up to this year - then come on down to the reservoir and join in the fun!
