About Us
Llandegfedd Sailing Club is at the heart of a thriving multi-watersport community at Llandegfedd Lake, a reservoir of over 430 acres constructed in the early 1960s to provide clean drinking water for the rapidly growing city of Cardiff. The details of this huge civil engineering project are here.
With nearly two kilometres down the lake and one kilometre across it, there’s plenty of room for even the fastest dinghy classes to show their paces. Conditions vary from sultry summer days and evenings to challenging windy weekends, with plenty of options to set exhilarating race courses or run sheltered training sessions in a safe and supervised environment.
Llandegfedd Sailing Club has gained a reputation for prestige racing and high-quality instruction. The club is proud of its record in producing nationally and internationally recognised junior, youth and adult champions.
The club is run by volunteers and welcomes anyone who would like to get involved in our sport. We encourage members of all abilities and all ages to sail casually or competitively, in their own or in club boats, with safety boat cover on club sailing days. We organise social and sailing events throughout the season, and the club is a recognised venue for open and national racing events.
Our members have a vast amount of experience and willingly provide advice about purchasing, maintaining and sailing different types of boat. and many are qualified trainers and instructors. Whether you are an adult, family or youth sailor, we offer simple and enjoyable pathways for learning how to sail, improving your existing sailing skills, and meeting similarly experienced sailors remove: at our racing and leisure sailing events.
