Junior Training

As a recognised RYA Training Centre, we follow the RYA junior programme, starting with the beginners at Stage 1, moving through Stages 2, 3 & 4. We then offer additional qualifications such as RYA Start Racing.  Details of the content of the RYA courses can be found on the RYA website.  We run these courses during the season and members are able to book these through the club.

Check our schedule below for this years courses.

Race Coaching

We run a weekly Thursday evening race coaching session for all of our junior sailors who have achieved at least their RYA Stage 2. The sessions take place in Toppers and include race coaching as well as general development and the opportunity to sail with others of all abilities.

Double Handed Coaching

These sessions are arranged on a selection of Sunday mornings during the season. Club Feva sailing dinghies are used to develop junior sailing skills in double handed boats. This is available to all junior sailors with at least RYA Stage 2 with the aim of encouraging juniors to join in with the Club LLSC races which take place on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Check our calendar for this year's dates.

Pathway Training Weekends

Our Pathway Training weekends will offer high end coaching for sailors who are looking to progress on the race circuit within Wales and Nationally. We will be offering training at Llandegfedd for the Topper class.  Sailors should:

  1. have completed their RYA Start Racing module (or have equivalent experience) and be comfortable sailing around a course independently.
  2. be able to stay out on the water for 2 hour sessions.
  3. have been sailing regularly at a club for at least one season.
  4. be able to launch and recover their boat (with some support).
  5. be ready to focus on racing with the concentration and effort that it involves.

Welsh squad sailors are welcome and encouraged to join the weekends, with the understanding that we will be tailoring the training to those within their first couple of years of being a member of a Welsh squad or hoping to be part of a Welsh squad.

The dates for the Pathway Weekends are:

6th & 7th September 2025

18th & 19th October 2025

22nd & 23rd November 2025

14th & 15th March 2026

25th & 26th April 2026

Instructor Courses

During the year we usually arrange both an RYA Assistant Instructor course and an RYA Dinghy Instructor course. This is available to suitably competent sailors who will be selected by our Chief Instructor. Please let us know if you would like to be considered for this.
