This page has TWO Notices. The first is for the vast majority of races. It covers both Handicaps and Pursuit formats. 

At the foot of the page is a different version, stored as a pdf document, that covers the Sprint Racing that we run a few times each year. 

Notice of Race for Club Series

1  RULES

1.1 Club racing will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 Racing rule(s) 26, 32, 33, 35, 60.1, will be changed as follows:
       26 – Starting (to allow for lights)
       32 – Shortened Courses
       33 – Change of Course
       35 – Time Limits
       60.1 – Protest

The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.

2  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

2.1 Sailing Instructions for club racing are available on the website.  Sailing Instructions

3   ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 Club Racing is open to all classes of mono-hull boats up to 20 feet in length. Where boats do not have a RYA recognised Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) number the Racing Committee will decide on a suitable handicap.

4  FEES

4.1 No fee is charged to Llandegfedd Sailing Club members
4.2 Other fees:
Guests may race on 3 days during a season without charge, after which they will be expected to become a club member or pay per day 
£5 per Wednesday
£10 per Sunday

5  SCHEDULE

5.1 Dates of racing:
As defined in the Llandegfedd Sailing Club Programme.
5.2  Number of races:
As defined in the Llandegfedd Sailing Club Programme.

6  EQUIPMENT INSPECTION

6.1 Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate where appropriate if requested by the Racing Committee.
6.2 Boats shall also comply with RRS 78.1 (boat complies with class rules while racing).

7  VENUE

7.1 Llandegfedd Reservoir
7.2  The Racing area will be within the boundaries defined by the plan attached to the Sailing Instructions which is subject to change by DCWW. 

8  THE COURSES

8.1 The courses to be sailed will be as described in the Sailing Instructions.

9  PENALTY SYSTEM

9.1 The penalties are as described in the Sailing Instructions.
9.2 Decisions of the protest committee will be final as provided in rule 70.5.

10  SCORING

10.1 The low points system will apply as RRS Appendix A.
10.2 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
10.3 RRS A5.3 will be used for Club Series
10.4 The number of scores to be counted for Club Series will be half the total number of races completed plus one, in the case of an even number of total races; or half the total number rounded up to the next whole number in the case of an odd total number of races.
10.5 Scoring for various crew and boat combinations are described in the Sailing Instructions.

11  RADIO COMMUNICATION

11.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

12  RISK STATEMENT

12.1  RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’  By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough water, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury.  Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia or other causes.

13  INSURANCE

13.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £3,000,000 per event or the equivalent.

14  PRIZES

14.1 Prizes will include the following: 

  • Club Champion
  • Asymmetric Champion
  • Conventional Champion
  • Best Result not qualifying for a Series.
  • Best Improver based on Results Secretary’s Calculation

Notice of Race for Sprint Racing

The Sprint Race days are held about 4 times each year. As they are a short format race, the NoR is subtly different from the above.
